Abstract

Everyone living in a society has a reputation and self-respect and he/she wants to exercise this without any interference of others. The tort of deformation is to protect individual right of repetition in the society from being exploited and also provides individuals with the action which can be brought in the courts of law if they have been defamed by the publication of an statement that in untrue about them and has an effect on the reputation of the individuals in front of the society. Defamation has been defined as “The publication of a statement which reflects on a person’s reputation and tends to lower him in the estimation of right-thinking members of society generally or tends to make shun or avoid him.
