This study explores the relationship between caste and identity politics in India, focusing on the role of caste in political contestation. Caste, deeply ingrained in Indian society, has historically shaped social, economic, and political dynamics. The paper delves into the intersection of caste and identity politics, highlighting how caste-based identities influence political mobilization and electoral outcomes. It examines the ways in which political parties in India have exploited caste affiliations to garner support
and consolidate power. Additionally, the abstract analyses the impact of caste-based reservations and affirmative action policies on political contestation and social mobility. The study draws upon theoretical frameworks to provide insights into the complex interplay between caste and identity politics, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities it presents for Indian democracy. By exploring the multifaceted dimensions of caste in political contestation, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of the intricate socio-political landscape in India.
