Abstract

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are vital in promoting social development, advocating for human rights, protecting the environment, and implementing policies in India. NGOs bridge the gap between government initiatives and grassroots communities, addressing issues such as poverty, education, healthcare, women empowerment, and environmental sustainability. Nevertheless, NGOs in India are required to function within a clear legal framework, which is regulated by laws like the Societies Registration Act, 1860, the Indian Trusts Act, 1882, the Companies Act, 2013, and the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), 2010. This paper explores the roles, responsibilities, challenges, and legal framework under which NGOs function in India.
