FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY: BEYOND INVESTIGATIONS

Abstract

Forensic psychology deals with the intersection between psychology and the justice system. It is concerned with the application of clinical specialities to the legal arena and people who come into contact with the law. It includes applying results from studies in areas such as cognitive psychology to legal questions. Fundamental legal principles with regard to expert witness testimony and the specific content area of concern. Example, competence to stand trial, child custody, and visitation or workplace discrimination also come under the scope of forensic psychology.
This paper will discuss the ways in which forensic psychology contributes to investigations. Psychology can provide useful tools to help and support decision making of investigators in order to facilitate the process of investigation. Principle of psychology will also aid in the evaluation process of the accuracy of the investigative information. This paper will also highlight the various decisions given by the Supreme Court which are considered as precedents, a comparison between legal and medical insanity will be made briefly, how the concept finds its application in criminal proceedings as well as criminal proceedings against juveniles will be talked about, the defense of insanity will be stressed upon majorly.
