Abstract

Intellectual property rights (IPR) are the rights awarded by Government to individuals or organizations principally over creative works: discoveries, scholarly and artistic works, logos, names, images and designs used for commercial purposes. They give the creator the proper to stop others from making unauthorized use of their property for a limited period. Intellectual property rights are safeguarded for inventors and other producers of scholarly goods and services by granting them certain rights to control the usage of those products and services for a given time period. This paper briefly discusses the IPR, need, types and various aspects of IPR. This paper focuses on the initiatives taken by the Government of India for the protection of IPR.
