Government Initiatives and Intellectual Property Education in India
Abstract
The Indian government has put in place a number of laws and initiatives to raise a generation that is cognizant of intellectual property since it recognizes its vital role in growth. Launched in December 2021, the National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission aims to raise awareness of intellectual property rights among one million students while encouraging innovation and creativity among college students. The National Intellectual Property Rights Policy of 2016 provides a thorough framework that emphasizes modernizing intellectual property rights administration, increasing intellectual property generation, and raising public understanding of the socioeconomic advantages of intellectual property. To further encourage innovation, programs, such as the KAPILA scheme offer financial assistance for patent applications in higher education institutions. Intellectual property content has also been incorporated into the curricula of educational institutions; for example, NCERT has included intellectual property rights issues in high school commerce courses. To increase stakeholders’ understanding of intellectual property rules and their ramifications, workshops, seminars, and online courses are being arranged. Together, these initiatives seek to establish a strong
intellectual property education ecosystem in India that would help researchers and students comprehend and successfully safeguard their inventions. In addition to improving educational results, the government is establishing India as a competitive force in the global innovation arena by promoting a culture of respect for intellectual property.
