India is an Agricultural economy as it is the source of income of the majority of its population. The Indian climate facilitates the growth of the best quality agricultural products. Indian spices, rice, mangoes, and other products are renowned worldwide for their exceptional quality. Thus they are imported by many countries on a large scale. Basmati rice occupies a major part of Indian exports. This research paper aims to make a detailed analysis of what is Geographical Indication with reference to the Basmati rice Case, and what are the measures that can be adopted to prevent its infringement.
