Abstract

This research paper explores the legal frameworks regulating industrial effluent discharge in different jurisdictions and evaluates their effectiveness in safeguarding public health and the environment. Utilizing a socio-legal approach, the study analyzes how these laws are implemented on the ground and their impact on community health and ecological sustainability. Through a comprehensive review of legislation, case studies, and public health data, this paper uncovers the strengths and weaknesses of existing regulatory mechanisms. Findings indicate a significant variation in enforcement and compliance, which directly correlates with varying health outcomes in affected populations. The paper concludes with recommendations for an integrated regulatory approach that enhances community engagement, strengthens enforcement, and promotes environmental justice, thus ensuring a more effective management of industrial pollution. This study underscores the critical need for aligning legal practices with public health imperatives to foster a sustainable future.
