In Cameroon, money laundering remains a danger to the nation's economic stability, social justice, and right to progress, even with the country's laws and institutions designed to suppress it. Making huge sums of money obtained through unlawful activities, such drug trafficking or corruption, seem as though they originated from a legitimate source is known as money laundering. Money laundering undermines financial institutions, which are critical to the advancement of the economy, promotes crime and corruption, which impede economic growth, and reduces productivity in the real economy, all of which have an impact on the overall objectives of the state. This paper focuses on examining the fight against money laundering by financial institutions in Cameroon. The paper adopts a qualitative research methodology with the doctrinal method being one of its main methods which entail content analysis of primary and secondary data. The study also makes use of unstructured interviews, and observation. The ensuing result revealed that money laundering to a greater extent is effectively being combatted by financial institutions in Cameroon. Yet, there remain challenges that hinder their effectiveness in addressing certain issues. Hence, there is the need to empower the staff of financial institutions through training and to strengthen the fight against corruption within staff of financial institutions in Cameroon.
