A Socio-Legal study: AI-Driven Income Assessment and Its Impact on Spousal Support Determinations

The increasing integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into legal processes is reshaping traditional adjudicatory frameworks, particularly in family law. Spousal support (alimony) determination historically characterized by judicial discretion and contextual reasoning is now being influenced by AI-driven income assessment tools that utilize data analytics and predictive modeling. This paper critically examines how such technologies are transforming the evaluation of financial capacity in spousal support cases. It explores their implications for consistency, fairness, gender justice, and judicial accountability. While AI offers significant benefits in improving efficiency and reducing arbitrariness, it simultaneously raises concerns regarding algorithmic bias, opacity, and over-standardization. The paper argues for a cautious, regulated integration of AI, emphasizing the need to preserve judicial discretion and human-centered justice.
