Abstract

This paper examines the influence of maternity and parental leave laws on workplace gender equality across different countries. By analyzing the legislative frameworks and their implementation in selected nations, this study highlights best practices and gaps in policy that impact gender equity. The findings emphasize the importance of supportive leave policies in promoting gender equality, the challenges faced by working parents, and recommendations for policy improvements to foster an equitable workplace. This study employs a qualitative comparative analysis of maternity and parental leave laws in four countries: Sweden, the United States, Japan, and Germany. These nations were selected due to their varied approaches to leave policies and differing levels of gender equality in the workplace. The research draws on legislative documents, scholarly articles, and reports from
organizations focusing on gender equality and labor rights.
