Socio-Legal Impact of Domestic Violence Against Women in India

Domestic violence against women is not just a woman’s issue; it is a problem that affects society. Domestic violence is a broad term and if we understand it in simple words, it violates constitutional rights if domestic violence happens against women this violates the basic structure of the Constitution as well as the human rights of women. Every woman has a legal right as well as a fundamental right to live a dignified life. According to Hindu mythology is clarified that a woman is the “ARDHANGINI” of her husband which means both have equal rights when they enter an institution of marriage because marriage is sacramental and there are certain matrimonial duties, they must fulfil and certain obligations are not only imposed upon the women but also the men. As far as domestic violence against women is concerned, it demonstrates inequality between men and women which leads to violence by men against women this also happened due to failures of the administration of justice and a lack of awareness in women as far as their rights are concerned. This offense is only specified for women because women are weaker in society.
