Abstract

Through the process of adoption, a person takes over the parental responsibilities of another, typically a kid, from that person’s biological, or legal parent or parents. Legal adoptions transfer all rights, obligations, and affiliations from the biological parents to the adoptive parents forever. Adoption, as opposed to guardianship or other institutions created for the care of the young, aims to bring about a permanent change in status and, as such, needs society’s acknowledgment, either through legal or religious permission. Hence, this paper aims at examining the adoption procedure in Cameroon. We used content analysis and data interpretation from primary and secondary sources in conjunction with strictly doctrinal research strategies to accomplish this goal. The ensuing result reveals that many people are resulting in adoption, and the procedures are becoming more strict and
expensive as the days go by. Hence, this study recommends that in Cameroon, there should be a unified and precise law that governs adoption among the two legal systems in Cameroon. If there is a unified law on adoption in Cameroon, it will ease the process of adoption in Cameroon.
