Abstract

Traces of body fluids recovered from the crime scene are the most important type of evidence for the forensic investigators. It contains valuable DNA evidences which are helpful in identifying accused person as well as victim. The nature of body fluids is itself informative for the investigators. Driven by the importance for forensic applications, body fluid identification methods have been extensively developed in recent years. The systematic analysis of these new developments is vital for forensic investigators to be continuously educated on possible superior techniques. Analysis of different aspects of bloodstains includes appropriate methods from natural sciences, particularly methods in molecular biology and also from mathematics and chemistry.  This paper analyses the current methods being used to identify body fluids stain including blood, semen, saliva, vaginal fluid, urine, and sweat and also focuses on the new techniques that have been developed.
